On the old computer:
Here are the files that you may want to transfer to a new computer. We have listed their default locations below.
You can copy the paths and paste them into Windows File Explorer. However, if you see Version#, please change that to the version of the software you are using.
If multiple Windows users will be running the software on the new computer, a few files will need to be copied into each Windows user's folder, as noted below.
-
General settings file (GeneMarker.ini) and CODIS export settings (codis.ini, which will only appear here if modified in the software). This location is specific to a particular Windows user so be sure to copy these files from someone that uses the validated settings matching the lab's SOP.
-
The default location: %appdata%\SoftGenetics\GeneMarker
-
-
Panel & Size Standard folders, User Management Database (GeneMarker.db), Positive Control file (PositiveControls.ini), and other .ini files (these items only appear here if they have been created or modified in the software). This default location is also specific to a particular Windows user so be sure to copy these files from someone that uses the validated settings matching the lab's SOP.
-
The default location: %localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SoftGenetics\GeneMarker\Version#
Note: If the panel and size standard files are not present or are very old, you can open the software and navigate to View -> Preferences -> Others tab to find the updated path set by your lab.
-
- Relationship Testing Database (GeneDB.db), Run Wizard Templates (DataProcOptions.ini and ExpTemplates.ini), Print Templates (PrintTemplates.ini), and Comments Template (CommentsTemplate.ini):
-
The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\SoftGenetics\GeneMarker\Version#
Note: If the Run Wizard template files are very old, you can open the software and navigate to View -> Preferences -> Others tab to find the updated path set by your lab.
-
On the new computer:
- Paste the copied files in their appropriate locations on the new computer, replacing any files of the same name. Please note that since the AppData folder is found within Windows user's folders, files will need to be saved in the AppData folder for every Windows user that will be utilizing the software.
-
To enable User Management, the GeneMarker administrator will have to open the software, go to Help -> User Management, then select Change User in order to log in, and then select the option to Run User Protection.
- Close and reopen the software before running some data to confirm that the software functions as expected.
